A guinea pig habitat should support movement, rest, feeding, and retreat. Decorative cages are not always designed around those needs.
Prioritize floor space
Guinea pigs spend their time moving horizontally rather than climbing tall structures. Choose a stable enclosure with generous usable floor area and safe footing.
Add multiple resources
Provide hiding places, hay access, water, and feeding areas positioned so one animal cannot easily control everything. Hides with more than one exit may reduce conflict.
Plan for cleaning
Use absorbent, species-appropriate bedding and remove wet areas frequently. Good ventilation matters, but the enclosure should not sit in a strong draft or direct heat.
