Birds can reach hazards quickly, so prepare the room before opening the cage. Close windows and exterior doors, turn off ceiling fans, and make sure other animals cannot enter unexpectedly.
Check the air
Smoke, aerosol sprays, strong fragrances, overheated nonstick cookware, and some cleaning fumes can be dangerous to birds. Use products only as directed and move the bird away from activities that affect air quality.
Cover collision risks
Large clear windows and mirrors may not look solid to a flying bird. Curtains, shades, or visible markers can make the surface easier to recognize.
Remove small and chewable hazards
Protect electrical cords, secure containers of water, remove toxic plants, and check furniture gaps. Supervision remains necessary even in a well-prepared room.
