Plant safety is not only about the species. Fertilizer, pesticides, decorative stones, standing water, and broken containers can also create problems.
Identify every plant
Keep the botanical name when possible. Common names are sometimes used for several different plants. Check reputable veterinary or animal-poison resources for the exact species and the animal in your home.
Consider access
A high shelf may not be inaccessible to a climbing cat or flying bird. Falling leaves and spilled soil can also move hazards into reach.
Review the entire setup
Choose stable pots, avoid unsafe soil additives, and clean up trimmings immediately. When exposure is suspected, contact a veterinarian or animal poison service promptly rather than waiting for symptoms.
